Affogato
Affogato is a beautifully simple Italian dessert. It means ‘drowned’. You make affogato taking a scoop or ice cream or gelato and pouring, or better yet, drowning, it with a shot of hot espresso.
Though it seems like it should be a dessert, technically it is a drink.
Hot & Cold Bizarre!
The first time I tried Affogato, I definitely confused it with something else. It took me by surprise when this bizarre coffee / dessert was put in front of me.
It is a remarkable combination of hot and cold – exciting the taste buds and feeling in your mouth.
We all know that chocolate and coffee is the perfect marriage, which makes this affogato really terrific! The ice cream is ‘cheats’ ice cream – it involves no churning. You can make it in a flash! The ice cream is really yummy on its own as well.
Obviously, hot espresso is preferred for affogato, but if you don’t have an espresso machine, extra strong, instant, black coffee will also work.
You should really try it!
